Other Technologies
What other technologies are out there to stop stonechips and road damage?
1. Car-bras. Not the most attractive looking accessory. I think of the Elephant Man when I see one of those driving by. Sure they cover the front of the car, but there is a bit of fiddling around to fit them, how do you store them, and apparently you need to keep them pretty clean to stop the clasps and material (and dirt trapped underneath) from damaging your paintwork. Apart from that it completely changes the colour and shape of your beautiful car. Not to mention possible interference with engine airflow and general aerodynamics. Now ask yourself - can a car-bra protect my door edges, the top of my rear bumper, my wheel arches, etc.?
 2. Plastic Bonnet Protectors. "Leaf catchers" we call them. Most unattractive. Made of acrylic, perspex or ABS. Usually they deteriorate over time, turning grey, yellow, brown, and the UV can make them brittle, and go hazy. They get scratched, and are impossible to keep completely clean on the inside. Held onto your bonnet with tight metal or plastic clips, or even screws that will eventually damage your paintwork. Have you ever looked under your bonnet to check out if the screws that they drilled into your bonnet have any rust forming around them? Still, they do work and protect the first 10cm of your bonnet, but nowhere else. Some people have told us that they just form a springboard for stones to hit your windscreen harder. One dealer told us that its bonnet protectors were scientifically designed to 'flip' the stones right over the vehicle. Hmmm.
 3. Waxes and Polishes. How thick a coating of wax would you need to stop a stone travelling 100kph+ from diving into your paintwork? Probably about as much suntan lotion you would need to protect yourself against gravel rash. There are "magic" products out there that suggest that very little can damage your paintwork if it's protected by these miracle products. Personally, I'm not going to take that chance. Use your waxes and polishes to keep your paintwork in great condition and to protect against bug guts and bird poo, but don't expect such materials to stop stones.
 4. Nano technology. Some prestige auto manufacturers have a great technology that is substantially more scratch-resistant than conventional paint, as well as retaining a high gloss for a longer time. That's nice, but I've seen relatively new models and they still have substantial stone chips. In fact their advertising doesn't mention stone chips. Their documented testing is done in a car-wash. If you are looking for Paint Protection against environmental pollution, then ask us about our ST1 Nano-Quartz, our customers rave about it!!
 5. Self Repairing Paint. Some vehicle manufacturers are now offering self-healing paint that over a short period of time will make small scratches disappear. That's ok if the paint hasn't actually been removed by a stone.
Summary. Nothing else really offers the convenience, coverage, clarity, and 24x7 reliability of Paint Protection Film. What are you waiting for?
